Thank you for visiting our school's physical education website! I am proud to be the physical education/health teacher here at Glacier Peak. This is a fantastic school that has some of the best kids and teachers around! It is my hope that your children have an excellent experience in my program and they pursue a lifetime of fun, fitness, and good health. I'd like to take a few moments to tell you a little about myself and what you can expect from me as your physical education teacher.
First, I grew up with a passion for sports and movement. As a young child, I was fascinated with every element of sport....kicking, batting, running, throwing...you name it! I loved it all! I continued my interest in athletics well into middle and high school. In fact, I was a five sport athlete in high school who lettered in track, basketball, baseball, football, and golf. In addition to sports, I was involved in student government, TAG (now called GT), National Honor Society, and many other clubs. I was fortunate to be selected as homecoming royalty my senior year and I graduated in the spring of 1995.
Upon completion of high school, I attended Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa to pursue and complete a K-12 Physical Education Degree with minors in both health and Spanish. I also played on the junior varsity basketball team and varsity soccer team. One of my greatest experiences at college was living with a host family in Mexico City to refine my Spanish speaking and interpretation skills over the period of three months! I graduated in 1999 and moved to Colorado in search of work!
Upon moving to Colorado, I got my first teaching job in a private school in Littleton for one year before landing an elementary physical education position here in Adams 12. I was very fortunate to work at Centennial for many years and being part of that community. It was also during that time that I finished my Masters' of Public Health Degree at the University of Northern Colorado. Shortly thereafter, I met my beautiful wife and I have been fortunate to be blessed with two wonderful children. Then, in 2015, I was hired here at Glacier Peak and I've been here ever since.
In closing, I want to thank the Glacier Peak community for accepting and welcoming me into this school. My doors are always open if you ever need anything. We're going to have a lot of fun and enjoy many great years to come!
Mr. Taylor Hood, M.P.H.
